The small, early-Victorian two-up two-down terrace had a DIY rear extension replaced with a new, flat-roof extension housing open plan kitchen/dining area. Stage I - a new ground floor extension replaced the only bathroom with a separate shower and toilet, accessed from a passage between the original house and the new rear extension. Some space was left for a new stair to replace the existing, inconvenient stairs in the living room.
Stage II added the first floor extension on the top of the ground floor extension. Three large roof lights were added: to the old rear bedroom, over the new bathroom and new stairs. The new rear bedroom has an access to a terrace - the unbuilt part of flat roof of the ground floor extension. A large roof light over the stairs lights up the previously dark centre of the ground floor.
